If you are having hip arthritis you should sit on floor, cross legged sitting or sqaut. If you do this the pain and damage increases.
Better to avoid sitting on floor or sqaut and even do not climb stairs, always use a stool or a chair to sit.
Strengthen your hip muscles by exercises, apply diclofenac gel and ice pack to reduce pain.
Even after joint replacement you are advised not to sit on floor or sqaut.
