Removing permanent filling overRCT tooth

2023-10-24 03:24:23
Hi, I have got a RCT done two days back on last second upper molar and the doctor did the permanent filling of GIC instead of Composite without informing me. I changed cities, so consulted another doctor for cap, who has suggested to replace permanent GIC filling and do a Composite filling. And then go for a cap. My concern is whether during replacing the filling, will it create issues deep down in the canals or any perforation ? As it might require drilling to remove GIC and then to re-fill with Composite. Please advise if this is okay and I can go ahead or are there any risks replacing it ?

It is completely fine to replace GIC filling with composite filling. Composite is way more better and stronger than GIC as Post endodontic filling material. So,go with what your dentist suggests.

How much damaged was your tooth when you fat RCT done. If it was a small to medium sized decay GIC is fine but if it was a large one composite should have been done. Even if you want to get the GIC replaced by composite you can get it done without a fear

Hi.. Why doctor advised composite over GiC because any way you are going to get a cap on that tooth, there is no point in replacing GIC. GIC is good that too as a post rct restoration. Don't worry if the filling is fine then you can go for cap placement without changing to composite

Replacing GIC with composite doesn't cause harm to the canals of the tooth....GIC is also strong..no need to change the filling.

Hi, After a Root Canal treatment, a GIC filling or Composite filling can be done. There is no need to change the filling unless the existing filling is fractured/chipped.

Although cap can be done over GIC. But if you want to change it with composite,  you can do it. Normally there is no problem in doing that.
