Recurring itchy anus, mostly pinworms

2026-02-28 13:30:39
Itchy anus after every meal, increases at night time, feels like worms are coming out. Had albendazole 2 days back, little relief. Also had 2 tablets 15 days back and 2 months back. It's a recurring issue. Please help to treat it completely.

You may be having fungal infection on anus. Take tab cetrizine 5mg one morning and one evening for 7 days. Apply betnovate c ointment,  2 times daily for 2 weeks and then consult online.

Night-time anal itching with “worms feeling” is commonly due to pinworm infection, but since it is recurring despite albendazole, other causes must also be considered. Possible reasons: • Reinfection (family members not treated together) • Incorrect dosing schedule • Fungal infection around anus • Piles or skin irritation • Diabetes-related itching For pinworms, treatment usually requires: • Single dose albendazole • Repeat same dose after 2 weeks • Treat all family members together • Strict hygiene (short nails, daily underwear change, morning washing) Since this is recurring even after multiple doses, stool test and local examination are needed before repeating medicines again. Based on your symptoms, this may require proper clinical assessment and prescription. You may book an online consultation with me for detailed evaluation and personalised treatment plan.

Your symptoms are very typical of pinworm infection (Enterobius vermicularis): • Intense anal itching • Worse at night • Sensation like worms moving • Recurring despite albendazole • Partial relief after medicine Pinworms lay eggs around the anus at night → causes severe itching. Reinfection is very common, especially if: • Family members are not treated together • Bedding/clothes not disinfected • Nails not trimmed Albendazole single doses often fail because eggs hatch later → cycle repeats.
Next Steps
✔ Step 1: Repeat Deworming Properly Albendazole 400 mg:
Health Tips
✔ Avoid self-repeating albendazole frequently without proper spacing ✔ Do not scratch (causes egg spread) ✔ Consider stool test if symptoms persist ✔ If itching severe, mild antihistamine at night can help Since this is recurring, likely reinfection rather than treatment failure. If symptoms continue even after proper family-wide treatment + hygiene, we may need to consider: • Fungal infection • Hemorrhoids • Anal dermatitis • Diabetes screening If you want, tell me: • Are other family members itchy? • Do you have diabetes? • Any vaginal itching? We can refine treatment further. If recurrence continues, booking a consultation will help create a complete eradication plan and break this cycle permanently.

Dear Patient, Your symptoms (itching around anus, worse at night, crawling sensation) are strongly suggestive of pinworm (threadworm) infection. Albendazole gives relief but recurrence is common if hygiene measures are not strictly followed. Advices • Repeat Albendazole 400 mg after 2 weeks (very important) • All family members should take treatment together • Keep nails short • Wash hands before meals and after toilet • Change undergarments daily • Wash bedding in hot water • Avoid scratching Night itching happens because worms lay eggs at night. If symptoms continue despite proper repeat dosing, stool test and doctor evaluation are required. For complete treatment plan and prevention guidance, kindly text me on Practo.
