RCT and CAP

I recently had a RCT in one of my molars, and the dentist advised for a cap, which I agreed for.But the dentist trimmed the exterior of the tooth a lot, it feels like 40% of the enamel is remaining now. Is that a routine procedure? Does it affect the strength of tooth after placing crown?
A cap is almost most of the time compulsory to be placed post-RCT to increase the longetivity of the RCT treated tooth and ease of eating anything. The amount of tooth reduction depends upon the various cap which are available and the amount space available and required for a cap to be placed comfortably. Do not worry.
