Rat bites are generally considered very low risk for rabies. Rodents like rats rarely transmit rabies to humans, and in India, ARV is not routinely recommended for rat bites. That said, do wash the wound well with soap and water immediately, and make sure your tetanus vaccination is up to date. Watch the wound for signs of infection like redness or swelling.

Not needed after rat bite. Take inj. Tetanus toxoid. Clean the bite site with antiseptic solution and apply betadine ointment over it.
