Radiation therapy

My father(62) is having 2cm by 7cm colon cancer tumor plus few enlarged lymph nodes. He is getting radiation therapy on a linac machine. Its written as 5040cgy in 28fractions, 5days a week. Also chemo as capegard 2500mg daily. My question is, if this therapy treats both tumor and the enlarged lymph nodes? And what tests are followed by end of radiation therapy to know the status or do they need to do some tests in between also?

For rectal cancer he will need surgery also after radiation and capegard. The biopsy report after surgery will tell us whether he needs further chemotherapy. Once the radiation is completed surgeon will get scans done to assess the response. They will be done about 4-6 weeks after radiation

Usually a PET CT SCAN is done around 9 weeks post chemo-radiation to assess the benifit.
