Rabies risk query

2024-10-04 09:42:06
I know this may sound too far fetched but please clear the doubt. We usually call a compounder to administer injections and there are a lot of stray dogs and monkeys in the locality. Is there any possibility that while coming to the house if a dog sneezed or monkeys saliva fell on the compounder's hands and he administered a injection after 1-2 minutes can one get rabies then? Sometimes they put finger on needle to place it or touch to feel muscles.

Rabies virus is an enveloped virus, that cause infection through bite of rabid animal.virus spread through saliva.direct contact with aerosol, released by infected animal can also infect the exposed person.in situation as presented by you, transmission is unlikely.presence of aerosols on hands of compounder, and if he touches the needle while injecting, may inoculate virus in body.so hand wash is a must in any case.hope this will help

If body fluids come in contact with the saliva of infected animal, it may cause infection. It is better to wash hands or sanitize before giving injection

You should let some water fall on your hand when you are walking in the rain and see if you can appreciate that some water has fallen on your hand or you can't appreciate it . I suppose that compounder will also have similar sensibilities and if some such things happen he will cancel his visit to your house, go back to the laboratory and get proper sanitization of his hands done.

Rabies transmission in the scenario you’ve described is highly improbable. The virus requires direct contact with an open wound or mucous membrane, and indirect transmission through contaminated surfaces or hands is not a common route for this virus. However, if you’re still concerned, ensuring that your compounder follows basic hygiene protocols (washing hands or using hand sanitizer before administering injections) can provide peace of mind and reduce the risk of any other infections. I hope this clears up your concern. Let me know if you have any further questions!

No, it won't transmit that ways. However, you should make sure that the person administering the injection has cleaned his/her hands with a alcohol based sanitizer or hand wash. The person should be wearing gloves while doing the procedure. The syringe is new pack seal, with seal opened infront of you, and he/she should not be touching the needle part of the syringe directly. If any of it is not followed, please stop the procedure immediately and ask for performing the complete procedure in a clean hygienic way.
