Both vaccines cause pain to baby while injecting. There will be fever, swelling and redness at injection site in both vaccines for 2 days. The intensity of these side effects will be less in the so called painless vaccine due to acellular pertussis component. Indian academy of pediatrics recommonds the so called painful vaccine in 6 weeks which contain whole cell pertussis antigen because the immunity generated by this vaccine will be intense and prolong.

Indian academy of paediatrics recommends so called painful vaccine as it is better in immunity development which is the only purpose of any vaccine. Hence I recommend whole cell pertussis or so called painful vaccine. Fever and fussiness is more but can easily be controlled by medicines. 1 in 10000 kid have serious side effects but that's true for any vaccine

Hi, both painful and painless vaccines are equally effective, its just that as the name suggest painless vaccines are easily tolerated by babies. Side effects still remains the same- mild fever, pain and swelling over injection side ( side effects are much much less in painless vaccines).
