Pain in lungs and mucus while coughing

I am having a slight pain in lungs sometimes and there is mucus while coughing everytime. What could possibly be the problem ? Is it harmful ?

If you are a smoker or are exposed to some kind of pollutant can be damaging ur airway mucociliary escalators causing mucous build up and pain maybe due to cough. Need some chest optimization for the same.. and detailed history..
