If you have been diagnosed with oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) for around 2 years and your mouth opening is only 10 mm, that is severely restricted.
The upper-right wisdom tooth rubbing against the cheek can definitely cause local irritation or ulceration, even without pain. However, a wisdom tooth rubbing the cheek would not normally explain a 10-mm mouth opening or OSMF by itself. The restricted opening is much more likely related to the underlying OSMF, although other causes should also be ruled out.
Next Steps
* Please see an oral medicine specialist/oral & maxillofacial surgeon for assessment, particularly because the opening is only 10 mm.
* Have the wisdom tooth examined. If it is repeatedly traumatizing the cheek, the dentist can decide whether treatment or removal is appropriate.
* Your specialist may assess the extent/stage of OSMF, check the cheek tissues for fibrous bands and examine any areas of ulceration.
* If you use areca nut/supari, gutkha, pan masala or similar products, stopping completely is extremely important. Continued exposure can worsen OSMF and increases the risk of oral cancer.
* OSMF requires regular follow-up, because it is a potentially malignant oral disorder.
Health Tips
* Don’t deliberately force your mouth open aggressively; stretching should be done only according to a specialist’s recommended exercise/physiotherapy plan.
* Avoid very spicy, hot or irritating foods if they trigger burning.
* Avoid tobacco and all areca-nut products.
* Keep the cheek and wisdom-tooth area clean and avoid repeatedly biting/rubbing it.
* Track your mouth opening periodically using the same method so your dentist can monitor whether it is improving or worsening.
