Nightmares /night terrors

Please suggest best practice treatment for deep sleep without nightmares or night terrors. I've tried several antidepressants, mood stabilisers, and propranolol 20 mg. Even clonotril 0.5 mg. And exercise and therapy doesn't work either. None of these have worked, except when it's something new for the first week or so. At least something which I can take 2-3 times a week for guaranteed undisturbed sleep. Thanks

I understand your problem. We need to find out underlying reason for your problem rather than surface treatment. Better speak with a Psychiatrist once who is willing to find out the cause.

Hi, it seems like you’ve been struggling with these symptoms for quite some time now and have tried a lot of medications without much success. Therefore it becomes imperative to find out the underlying cause of these nightmares. Just like fever is a symptom and paracetamol will only take it down for a while and until you treat the causative infection, the fever will keep coming back even after taking PCM. In roughly the same way, your sleep issues are reflective of an underlying untreated problem which unless addressed properly will keep leading to sleep disturbances despite taking medications. Sometimes, even some medications themselves are the cause of disturbed sleep. The causes can vary widely from physical to psychological to environmental. I do suggest that you see a psychiatrist and talk to them in detail about your history and the treatment you’ve tried so far. Then you can both reach a treatment consensus best suited for you. Also, please keep doing the relaxation and breathing exercises and maintaining sleep hygiene. Exposure to natural light during the day is very important for regulation of circadian rhythm as is a fixed sleep and wake routine. Over the counter melatonin 1 to 3mg can be tried one hour before sleep, every night at fixed time to help regulate circadian rhythm. Lavender oil, few drops on your pillow or in the diffuser has also shown evidence to promote relaxation and sleep. Chamomile tea or warm glass of milk or a bite of chocolate or a small banana before sleep also helps release some sleep promoting substances in the brain. When we go the gym, we don’t expect results in a day or a week, only consistency will show the desired results. Same is true for all routines. So hang in there! I wish you good health!!
