I have a meniscus tear in my right knee. I'm currently undergoing treatment for it. The doctor has asked me to perform certain exercises every day and has prescribed me tendoking tablets. I want to be able to run and play sports again but the doctor has said that I shouldn't run and play sports ever again. Please advise I really want to be athletic again.

How was your meniscal tear diagnosed in the first place? Has an MRI been already done? If yes, we need to find out if the tear is repairable....that is if it's in red zone or white zone. What are the symptoms/problem with the knee that made you go to the doctor? If you have a click accompanied with pain on the joint line the problem may be tad more serious than what we feel initially. If you occasionally have a locking sensation while moving the knee then the tear may be serious enough to warrant an arthroscopy. Minor tears which barely give rise to any symptoms can be neglected and treated only with good physiotherapy. Major tears have the potential of causing early arthritis in the long run. Do share your symptoms and also the MR images if you do have for us to help you further.

Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day.

In my opinion you should avoid playing sports as of now. Strengthen your muscles exclusively now. After certain period when u r painfree, start involving yourself with lighter activity in sports. Dont stop using knee support. It is a fact that u should keep on doing knee exercises throughout your life.so be in touch with your physio.
Health Tips
Avoid prolonged standing,squatting.

Get the MRI done to look for amount of tear. If large then it can be removed with Arthroscopy.  In the meantime , Start with knee strengthening exercises.  I am sending you the link of the same https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.technoherpes.kneepain
