Lower back pain

2016-06-03 09:46:57
My recent MRI scan report stated "Disc bulge at L5-S1 level with focal annular tear and central extrusion causing compression on traversing nerve root on left side"(picture attached) I was suggested for a surgery by a Neuro Surgeon". But I'm afraid. Is there any alternate way to cure this? Suggestions needed.

Hi i understand your concern.... Surgery is best choice in your case... Ensure that you maintain an appropriate posture while working or sitting or walking....Take frequent stretch breaks and drink lots of water...Discontinue using pillow while sleeping straight...Do not lift heavy objects, especially after bending down....Eat a healthy wholesome meal which should satisfy your minerals and proteins requirement...take over the counter pain medications..Consult nearest orthopedic surgeon or neuro surgeon for second opinion before surgery.

Hello. Sorry to hear this. Surgery will be useful only if the symptoms and MRI findings match. I am afraid I don't know your symptoms and examination hence it is hard to recommend surgery without this information. Fortunately, this procedure can be done with keyhole or endoscopic technique rather than open technique in which case recovery is faster. Best wishes.
