Couple of things- L5S1 is an uncommon cause of foot drop. The most common level affected is L45.
Since you are interested in a second opinion, see a neurosurgeon instead of a neurologist.
Foot drop due to a disk herniation is best treated with surgery where the pressure on the nerve is immediately relieved. Prolonged compression can either lead to a worsening foot drop or irreversible foot drop.
Please discuss these issues with your surgeon clearly.
I am not aware of any proven homeopathic treatment for sciatica since sciatica is a problem because of compression.
