Can be an inflammed suprapatellar bursa or a simple lipoma. USG of the affected knee joint would be helpful for diagnosis and further management.

Possible Causes: Prepatellar bursitis (fluid buildup over the kneecap) Early arthritis or inflammatory joint condition Joint effusion (fluid in the joint due to inflammation or overuse)
Next Steps
1. Rest & Activity: Avoid squatting, kneeling, or putting pressure on the knee Keep leg elevated when sitting or lying 2. Ice: Apply cold pack 3–4 times a day for 15–20 minutes 3. Medicine (OTC): Tablet Ibuprofen 400mg twice daily after food (for 5 days) (Avoid if you have gastric issues or asthma) Topical gel (like Diclofenac) for local relief 4. Compression: Use a knee brace or crepe bandage to reduce swelling 5. Anti-swelling supplement (Optional): Serratiopeptidase (like Seropeptase 10mg) once daily can help fluid resorption Important: If swelling increases, becomes red, warm, or if you get fever — see a doctor immediately If not improving in a week, get an ultrasound or X-ray of the knee

Spontaneous knee swelling must be followed by blood tests and X-ray to know if there is a systemic basis... But just for reducing pain and swelling,u can use pain killers commonly available like Paracetamol,Diclofenac+Omez or even fancy ones like Etoricoxib

**Dear Patient,**  Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding knee pain and swelling. Here’s what you need to know:  1. Possible Causes:    - The swelling above your knee could be due to **fluid accumulation** (effusion), **inflamed bursa** (bursitis), or other soft tissue changes.     - Since there’s no history of trauma, causes like **overuse, minor strain, or early joint inflammation** (e.g., prepatellar bursitis) are likely.  2. Initial Management:    - **Rest** and avoid activities that worsen the pain.     - Apply **ice packs** for 15–20 minutes, 2–3 times daily, to reduce swelling.     - Over-the-counter **pain relievers** (e.g., paracetamol) can help, but avoid prolonged use without medical advice.     - Gentle **knee-strengthening exercises** (if pain permits) may prevent stiffness.  3. When to Seek Further Evaluation:    - If swelling/persists beyond a week or worsens.     - If you notice **redness, warmth, or fever** (signs of infection).     - If the knee **locks or gives way** (mechanical symptoms).  4. Diagnostic Tests:    An **ultrasound (USG) or MRI** of the knee, as suggested by other doctors, can confirm the cause (e.g., bursitis, lipoma, or joint effusion).  Consultation Recommendation: While mild cases may resolve with self-care, persistent symptoms need clinical assessment. For a proper diagnosis and tailored treatment plan, I recommend an in-person or video consultation. You can reach me on WhatsApp at **Eight Zero Zero Nine Eight Two One Three Three Two** to discuss further.

Given your symptoms (pain on changing position or sitting up, swelling above the knee, spontaneous onset), here are some potential causes to discuss with your doctor:•Osteoarthritis: A degenerative joint condition that can cause pain, swelling, and stiffness. It often develops gradually over time.•Bursitis: Inflammation of the bursae (fluid-filled sacs that cushion joints).  Prepatellar bursitis (in front of the kneecap) or suprapatellar bursitis (above the kneecap) could cause swelling in the area you described.•Meniscus Tear:  Although you mentioned no trauma, degenerative meniscus tears can occur with age.•Ligament sprain: Although you mentioned no trauma, minor ligament sprains can occur from overuse.•Gout or Pseudogout: These are types of arthritis caused by crystal deposits in the joint, leading to inflammation and pain.•Rheumatoid Arthritis: An autoimmune disease that can cause inflammation of the joints.•Infection: Although less likely with a gradual onset, an infection in the knee joint could cause pain and swelling.
