Is mallet finger treated with surgery

Hi my son is 21 year old and he is a very good volley ball player. While playing the ball hit his finger very hardly and there is an injury in the tendon. This has caused mallet finger which will require surgery. In the surgery they will correct the tendon. will this treat his condition?
