Intermittent pain in left ear

Day before, I tried to clean the wax in my left year. Since then, I have a pain in the ear. It is intermittent but a very strong pain sensation, when felt. I don`t clean my ears regularly because of this only. Please suggest. Also, Please suggest the best way to clear the ears.
