The most probable reason for sudden onset pain over hip and waist region may be due to acute muscle spasm of lower back muscles.. Was there any injury or jerk.. Does the pain travel towards lower limbs also..

I will suggest you to start with hot fomentation, take analgesic with muscle relaxant tablet, apply local analgesic ointment.. If there is no relief, plan to get one x ray of hip and spine region..
