Gall bladder

2025-04-03 09:13:37
Hi, it was a routine check up, the report says the gall bladder has calculi measuring 12mm, and a few polyps(number not mentioned) measuring 3-5 mm. Is this a reason to worry, and is there a chance for malignancy in this case. How do we know if it is not malignant. Is there any other parameter in the blood which can determine this... please guide, quite worried...

There is no chance of malignancy at present but it may develop in the coming time. It is better to get the gall bladder removed.

Polyps upto 10 mm do not pose significant risk of malignancy Gall stones alone without pain or any other symptom is not an indication for surgery However larger polyps with size more than 10 mm size is an indication for surgery And in case of polyp with multiple gallstones, you can have sudden obstruction of gall bladder causing severe pain , in some cases can be recurrent. Therefore surgery is recommended

1.First there is no chance of malignancy for simple gallstones ..... 2. Removal of gall bladder is suggested when u are symptomatic like u have problems of frequent indigestion after eating fatty food as the bile acid from gall bladder is responsible for it 3.unless no such problems are there just ignore and be in regular follow follow up 4. Gall stones may get obstructed in outlet of gall bladder leading to symptoms of pain
Next Steps
just do liver function test and fasting lipid profile
Health Tips
gall stones are second most common cause of pancreatitis(chances are less than 2 per) so If u experiance pain in umbulicus immediately consult a doctor

It's a clear cut indication  on cholecystectomy.  As u delay polyp increase  in size n number. Any extra growth  not necessary that it's malignancy  but exception r every where. It's a lil procedure  with laproscope. Least hospitalization  n early recovery.

Ultrasound report showing both the calculi and multiple polyps is an indication for the cholecystectomy even if you don't have any symptoms.

As size of calculi is 12mm it is indication for cholecystectomy. Your gall bladder is prone to make stones so it will make more if kept as it is. Also gall bladder is just storage organ it will not cause much side effects after removal. Just need to change your diet little. There is no indication that it is malignancy.
Next Steps
You should consult surgeon if you have any family history of malignancy
Health Tips
Do liver function tests to know current health of liver

**Dear Patient,**  Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding your gall bladder findings. The presence of **calculi (12mm) and small polyps (3-5mm)** in the gall bladder is relatively common, but it does require careful evaluation to rule out complications or malignancy.  Key Points to Consider:  1. Gallstones (Calculi): These are usually benign but can cause symptoms like pain, infection, or inflammation (cholecystitis). If symptomatic, surgical removal of the gall bladder (cholecystectomy) may be advised.  2. Gall Bladder Polyps:    - Polyps <5mm are often benign (e.g., cholesterol polyps).     - Polyps >10mm or those with specific features (e.g., irregular shape, growth over time) raise concern for malignancy.     - Your polyps are small (3-5mm), but a **follow-up ultrasound in 3-6 months** is recommended to monitor for changes.  3. Assessing Malignancy Risk:    - Imaging:An ultrasound with Doppler or contrast-enhanced CT/MRI can provide better details.     - Blood Tests: While no single blood test confirms malignancy, elevated **CA 19-9 or CEA** (tumor markers) may raise suspicion, though they are not definitive.     - **Symptoms:** Unexplained weight loss, jaundice, or persistent pain warrant urgent evaluation.  Next Steps:  - **Consult a Specialist** (like myself) for a detailed review of your images, symptoms, and risk factors.  - Avoid delaying evaluation if you experience **abdominal pain, fever, or jaundice**.  For personalized guidance, I strongly recommend a **consultation**. You can reach me on WhatsApp at **Eight Zero Zero Nine Eight Two One Three Three Two** to schedule an appointment or discuss further.
