Fever with headache, cough, vomiting, and loss of appetite in July (peak dengue season in India) is a pattern that warrants caution. Regarding your question about the dengue test: the NS1 antigen test for dengue can be done from day 1 of fever and is most reliable in the first 1â5 days â so yes, it is a reasonable test to do now. A CBC (
complete blood count) should also be done to check your platelet count and WBC count, as dengue typically causes them to fall. For management right now: take only Paracetamol (e.g., Crocin 650 mg) for fever â do NOT take ibuprofen, aspirin, or diclofenac if dengue is suspected as these can cause dangerous bleeding. Drink plenty of fluids â ORS, coconut water, soups, fresh fruit juices. Rest adequately. Monitor your temperature every 4â6 hours.
