A knee that suddenly twists, gives way, or feels unstable is not normal and may occur due to a ligament injury (especially ACL), meniscus tear, patellar instability, or less commonly muscle weakness or a minor sprain. As your symptoms have been present for only 3 days, a proper clinical examination is needed to identify the exact cause.
Avoid activities that involve twisting, running, squatting, or sports until you are evaluated.
Next Steps
Please consult an Orthopaedic Surgeon for a detailed knee examination. Depending on the findings, you may require X-rays or an MRI to assess for ligament or meniscal injuries. If you would like a detailed assessment and guidance, you can also book an online consultation with me.
Health Tips
If the knee is swollen, apply ice for 15–20 minutes 3–4 times a day, use a knee brace if available, and avoid forcefully twisting the knee. If the knee locks, repeatedly gives way, or you are unable to bear weight, seek medical attention promptly.
