Mind is the faculty that collects data based on whatever you experience through your sense organs - eyes, ears, mouth, nose and skin. From this stored data, a piece of data is randomly picked and brought to your attention. This is referred to as a thought.
Hence, based on the data collected, various kinds of thoughts may flash across your mind screen.
You have the power to choose which thought you wish to focus on and act on.
Unaware of this, we totally identify with our thoughts considering them to be all true and factual.
When you repeatedly focus on a certain thought, your system interprets it as that thought is useful or important to you and hence such thoughts increase in frequency. Also, the corresponding emotion rises in your brain and overpowers your ability to think logically and rationally. When this occurs repeatedly, you become a prisoner of your own thoughts and emotions.
But, once you understand this process, you learn to be an observer of your own thoughts and exercise your power to focus only on those worthy of being acted upon.
Take care.
