Hi Discectomy is a routinely done procedure The outcomes are excellent and quite satisfying for the patient. As regards to safety, no surgery is 100% safe and if you are suffering since a long time with a huge prolapsed bulge better to get that disc removed to lead a more normal kind of life. P.S-The procedure is adequately safe if done in a good place by an expert spine surgeon Thanks

Not all  patient of backache need surgery. Most of them can be treated without surgery. Now a days, surgery is more safe than crossing the road, but still it carries some risk. Unnecessary surgery should always be avoided.

Yes. Surgeries are safe and give an immediate relief after surgery. The sharp shooting pain will be gone. However as you are young, you should invest in making your back muscles strong through exercise and physio. Occasional stiffness of back muscles may develop on and off for couple of months after the surgery... But can easily be managed with medicines for a day or 2... Do consult your surgeon to decide upon the surgery if its actually needed or should you manage it conservatively. Surgery is usually the last resort.
