Hello, Dark stools after starting Norflox can occur, but usually antibiotics alone don’t cause black stool. The common reasons are: Iron or bismuth containing medicines (if taken alongside). Gastritis or minor stomach irritation from antibiotics which can sometimes lead to darkening. Hidden gastrointestinal bleeding (from stomach/upper intestine), which needs to be ruled out if stool is truly black, sticky, or foul smelling (tarry). 👉 What you should do: Stop self-medication and continue only what your doctor has prescribed. Drink enough fluids and take Rinifol regularly to protect your gut flora. If stools remain dark black, become sticky/tarry, or you notice weakness, giddiness, abdominal pain, consult your doctor immediately for stool test and possibly endoscopy. It may be just a side effect, but since black stool can also indicate bleeding, it is better to get it checked rather than ignore. Dark stool after starting Norflox is not a usual side effect of the antibiotic. It may sometimes indicate bleeding in the stomach or intestine, especially if stools are black, sticky, or foul smelling.
Next Steps
Please do not ignore this symptom. Visit your prescribing doctor or a gastroenterologist for examination and stool test if needed. Carry your prescription and explain when the dark stools started.
Health Tips
Black stool is a red-flag sign. Seek medical attention promptly rather than assuming it is only from antibiotics.

Preferably get an endoscopy done to rule out your stomach problems. That might also give you an answer for dark stool.

Norfloxacin is a relatively safe antibiotic and doesn’t cause black stool. Same goes with rinifol which is just a probiotic. If you continue to have dark stools kindly connect. We need to go over what other medicines you are taking which may interact with these medicines and if any other reason is there for dark stool. Dark stool is different from Black stool and both can mean different things. So advise you to book a consultation.
