Yes you can get the crown fitted later but you must avoid hard things while chewing as root canal teeth are brittle and can fracture

It is mandatory to place a crown few days after a root canal treatment, as the tooth becomes brittle and chances of fracture are high If you are not able to place a crown for next 6 months make sure you avoid biting hard food on that side and The filling done after rct should be intact to prevent reinfection of the tooth.

Hello,   If you had mentioned to your dentist that the crown is going to be delayed, he or she would have probably reduced the contact with the opposing tooth, (to reduce the load on the tooth).          In this case, the chances of your tooth breaking (before you get a crown) may be less, but still you will have to be careful not to bite hard stuff on that side till the crown is done (a crown that fits very well with the neighboring teeth, physically and aesthetically)    And please try to get the crown done as soon as possible.     Hope this helps.
