Is it a dry cough or with sputum? If sputum then what colour? Any associated chest pain? Any fever? Smoking? Night cough / early morning cough? Fever, weight loss, blood in sputum?
Next Steps
Can get a chest x ray done along with sputum culture and sensitivity test and CRP to rule out any infection.
Health Tips
For now, take steam inhalation, warm fluids. Consult with reports.

A cough lasting more than 2–3 weeks with chest heaviness/fullness needs proper evaluation, not self-medication. Possible causes: lingering chest infection, bronchitis, asthma, acid reflux, or allergy.
Next Steps
What to do now: Please consult a doctor for chest examination ± chest X-ray. Avoid cold drinks, smoking, and dust exposure. Steam inhalation can help temporarily. ⚠️ Seek urgent care if you have fever, breathlessness, chest pain, blood in sputum, or worsening symptoms. Medicines depend on examination findings—so avoid starting medication on your own.

Hello, I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician (Ex Govt Medical Officer at RML Hospital, New Delhi), and your case has been allotted to me. Thank you for sharing this. A cough lasting a few weeks with a feeling of chest fullness suggests that the cough has become post-infectious or bronchitis-type, often worsened by acid reflux, pollution, or self medication. At present, this does not sound like an emergency, but it does need proper treatment rather than continued self care. What could be causing this • Residual airway inflammation after viral cough • Mild bronchitis • Acid reflux causing chest heaviness • Post nasal drip or allergy What you should do now • Avoid cold drinks, smoking, and dust exposure • Stay well hydrated • Avoid self starting antibiotics • Steam inhalation once or twice daily Medication The exact medicine depends on whether the cough is dry or productive, and whether there is wheezing or acidity. A wrong medicine can worsen symptoms, which is why prescribing without examination is not ideal. When to consult a doctor immediately • If cough persists beyond 3 weeks • If chest pain increases or breathlessness develops • If fever, blood in sputum, or wheezing occurs • If cough is disturbing sleep A short examination and basic assessment help decide whether you need inhalers, anti allergy treatment, gastric protection, or imaging. For personalised one to one consultation and correct treatment, you can reach out to me directly on WhatsApp at 85271646 seven seven. This avoids trial and error and helps you recover faster. Wishing you quick relief. Dr. Romain Rajan General Physician
