Continuous meaningless dreaming

I have been crying while sleeping from last few days ... Now I am having continuous meaningless dreams back to back in my sleep. What is the reason behind this? I wakeup so many times in the midnight.

This can happen due to stress and increased thinking about life stress. Depression or anxiety can present as insomnia. Also there can be many other reasons apart from psychiatry for sleep disturbances.
