Colonoscopy is done by passing a flexible tube into the rectum. Then it is manipulated under direct vision, that means the tube is made to negotiate all the curves of the large intestine. That tube is actually a collection of prisms and lenses by which the doctor can see inside the intestine. It is not done under anaesthesia but a sedation is given to allay your anxiety. It is not painful but it is "irritating". Any suspicious looking area can be removed and sent for examination. The main thing is, will it give a diagnosis ? The answer is, "Only time will tell".

Good day ma'am! A colonoscopy is an extremely simple procedure and usually extremely safe and uncomplicated. It is an uncomfortable feeling none the less and they will give you anaesthesia locally to prevent any sort of pain. However, it is still uncomfortable. A word of advice is that you prepare your intestinal tract for the procedure with COLOPREP or PEGLEC which is mixed into water and drunk. The procedure only lasts for a few minutes and there is discomfort lasting for approximately 10 minutes after the procedure but after that you won't even remember you had a colonoscopy done!
Next Steps
Prepare your intestine as instructed above and don't be afraid! it won't last more than 5 minutes. if you want more information about the finer aspects of the procedure do not be afraid to ask me on the practo application. I am always free to help out and promise to reassure you throughout the procedure and even after it!
