Chipped Molar Tooth

2022-07-18 19:47:54
I met with an accident and I had a ORIF jaw surgery (parasymphysis fracture) 3 weeks ago... I'm still recovering, on soft foods. My concern is, my lower molar had a cavity before and during the accident it got broken more, today it slightly came up and sat in place again but it's shaky. Please advise me what should I do? I still have pain and swelling because of the surgery. I'm worried this molar might cause even more trouble in my recovery. I'm scared to brush and swish my mouth.

Firstly, need not worry regarding your molar tooth. It will not hamper your recovery. But not maintaining oral hygiene by avoiding brushing and rinsing can lead to infection at the surgical site. So continue with your brushing routine and use antimicrobial mouthwash for rinsing your mouth. Post recovery you can visit a dentist for the appropriate treatment of your molar tooth.

Hi... Molar is an important tooth. If it is not causing much pain you can wait till the time you recover from jaw surgery. Later on depending on the condition of your tooth treatment like RCT can be advised.

If molar is painful  once you recover from surgery, get it restored or root canal treated. Please maintain good oral hygiene as it can interfere with recovery of jaw surgery.avoid intake of hard ,solid foods.

Sir i would suggest you get recovered completely first and let that molar be at its place for now as it's not causing any pain . Plz eat soft food and do maintain oral hygeine by light tooth brushing.

Dear sir if you have no pain due to your molar i will suggest you to keep it in your mouth till you are not fully recovered...do eat from other side...and brush very lightly on that side

Recovering from the jaw surgery is the priority in your case. If you do not have any pain in that molar, kindly leave as it is for a while. Take soft and cold diet. Do not open your mouth wide. Avoid eating from that particular side where the molar is broken.
Next Steps
Once you feel better, visit the dentist for the molar treatment.
