Chest pain , GERD

2026-01-31 01:58:50
A few months ago , I experienced chest pain and consulted a doctor. Tests including chest X-ray ECG blood work and Troponin levels were done- all came back normal.cardiac issues were ruled out and was told it might be acid reflux. I took prescribed medicine like nexpro rd and antibiotics and saw gradual improvement . After a month, symptoms improved slightly, but l continued to feel mild chest and back pain, especially on the left side and while lying down. I then had a stool test for H. pylori, which came back negative. Further blood tests showed low folic acid, high LDL, HDL, and triglycerides, along with abnormal liver function (elevated aminotransferase and mean platelet volume).Despite following lifestyle as advised, I still experience discomfort in my throat, chest, and lower back and can see developed hard lumps on my bodyI've tried multiple treatments, but the issue hasn't fully resolved and can also see dI am currently abroad and have explored all available medical options

Heart causes are already ruled out. Your current symptoms are most consistent with GERD with associated musculoskeletal chest/back pain.
Next Steps
Start a regular PPI course (Esomeprazole 40 mg once daily before breakfast for 6–8 weeks) ± Alginate/antacid after meals Add Paracetamol only if needed for back/chest wall pain Correct folate deficiency (Folic acid 5 mg OD) Repeat LFT + lipid profile after 6–8 weeks If symptoms persist despite adequate PPI compliance, we should plan an upper GI endoscopy.
Health Tips
Please don’t panic, this does not suggest a heart problem and is a common, treatable condition.

Your symptoms are most consistent with a combination of reflux-related chest pain (GERD/LPR) and musculoskeletal chest wall pain, with contribution from nutritional deficiency (low folate) and metabolic issues (fatty liver, dyslipidemia). Serious cardiac disease has been adequately ruled out. Persistent symptoms despite treatment suggest functional reflux or pain hypersensitivity, not a dangerous or progressive condition.
Next Steps
1. Continue PPI correctly (30 min before breakfast) and add an alginate antacid after meals and at bedtime. 2. Start folic acid supplementation and check B12 if not done. 3. Manage chest wall pain with posture correction, stretching, and topical NSAID gel. 4. Address fatty liver and lipids with diet changes and repeat LFTs after 6–8 weeks. 5. If hard lumps increase in size, become fixed, or painful → get them examined; otherwise observation is sufficient.
Health Tips
• Avoid late meals, caffeine, chocolate, spicy food, and lying flat after eating. • Elevate head end of bed and avoid slouching during work. • Stress and symptom-monitoring worsen functional pain—limit repeated self-checking. • Improvement is gradual; functional chest pain often takes weeks, not days, to settle.

Heart causes are already ruled out. Your symptoms fit acid reflux + muscle-related chest/back pain. Low folic acid and abnormal lipids/liver enzymes also need correction. Antibiotics won’t help reflux, which is why relief is partial.
Next Steps
1. Take PPI regularly for 4–6 weeks. 2. Start folic acid. 3. Do ultrasound abdomen + repeat LFT/lipids. 4. One proper consult (even online) will help plan this instead of trial meds.
Health Tips
Avoid late meals, spicy food, coffee/alcohol. Don’t lie down after eating. If symptoms persist, get guided treatment — quick consult saves time and stress.
