Can it cause  false or incorrect result?

Hello doctors, My recent urine routine test showed the presence of protein in urine. So, I’ve been advised to do a 24-hour urine protein test. The problem is, labs near my home are too expensive. I found one lab that is affordable, but it is far from where I live. I want to know: 👉 If I collect the 24-hour urine sample and carry it to that far lab, 👉 Will sunlight, travel time, or heat affect the sample? 👉 Can this cause a false or incorrect result? Please guide me on what is safe and correct to do.

Hi, Before we get there, i it is important for us to understand how much protein was detected in the urine routine. Normally you can have traces of protein in the test if you have a fever, you have a urinary infection or if you recently exercised before the test. Trace to oneplus urine protein can be normal it might not require 24 hour protein test. Kindly consult once with your reports and I will get back to you

You should collect the specimen of urine for 24 hours and keep it in the Refrigerator till it is transported to the Lab

Yes, sunlight, travel time, and heat can affect a 24-hour urine protein sample if it is not handled properly. However, you can still carry the sample to a distant lab safely if you follow certain precautions.
Next Steps
Use the special 24-hour urine collection container provided by a lab or pharmacy. These are usually large, clean, and sometimes opaque to protect from light. Do not use random household containers (especially not bottles that once held milk or juice). Refrigeration is key. During the 24-hour collection, the container must be kept in a refrigerator or in a cool box/ice chest. If traveling, transport the sample in an insulated bag with ice packs. After completing the 24-hour collection, try to deliver the sample to the lab within 2–4 hours.
Health Tips
Exposed to heat → Protein may break down or bacteria may grow. Left in sunlight → UV light can affect certain components. Not kept cool → May lead to falsely low protein results.

Need few more details,  why did you get the test done? What was the problem? Taking urine sample far will affect results only if there is much delay in testing.

No. You get a preservative from lab initially. And then collect urine in it.
