Hello Sir,
For long-standing back pain above the buttocks, an X-ray of the lumbosacral spine is usually advised. This X-ray helps in detecting issues like bone alignment problems, early arthritis, disc space changes, or any structural abnormality in the lower spine. However, please note that X-ray mainly shows bones — it will not clearly show soft tissues like muscles, nerves, or discs. For those, an MRI may sometimes be required if the pain persists or if there are nerve symptoms (like tingling, numbness, or weakness in legs).
Since your pain has been coming and going for a year, it’s good you are getting it checked. Follow your doctor’s advice for the X-ray, and based on the report, further evaluation can be decided.
I hope it helps you. For proper management and treatment, you can consult me, just go to my profile.
