- Antibiotics won't be as helpful for infected tooth, sometimes it does but not all the time. - Root canal treatment will actually help you subside the pain. Antibiotics won't be needed after that. - Need to check clinically and radiographically, how much infection and carious is that tooth.

You may require a root canal treatment and your pain may not go until the prescribed treatment is completed. Please consult your local dentist to further evaluate and treat the problem .

It depends on the dosage you're taking. And if the case is long standing infection it might have become a hot tooth, means in such cases, medication works very slowly than usual and treatment is needed for pain relief.  Also if there's any painkillers advised, you can have that.
Next Steps
can you share the dosage and other medications here?

What is the power of tablet (how much mg)? How many times are you taking it in 1 day? Which pain killer are you taking? Are you having swelling?
Health Tips
In acute cases medicines don't provide much relief. Need to do treatment on priority.

Hi! As you mentioned it's an antibiotic. Antibiotics help reduce the infection which takes around 3-7 days to resolve. Meanwhile if there is pain which is bothering you then you need to take a pain killer. The pain will subside once the infection is cleared off if you don't take the painkiller.
Next Steps
Consult your dentist again and ask him to suggest a painkiller for you.
Health Tips
These medications are temporary solution and once stopped taking, the pain and infection might reoccur. Make sure that you get the tooth treated! Take care.
