Allergy to septocain, is lidocaine safe?
I've been undergoing a lot of dental treatment. My last appointment she used septocaine and I had a bad reaction & swelled up huge. Now she wants to use Lidocaine. If i have an allergy to septocaine, is Lidocaine a safe alternative? I am terrified of having anaphalactic shock and worse, permanent nerve damage.

If you have undergone numerous dental treatment then it's unlikely that the swelling you are mentioning was an allergic reaction .
Next Steps
please ask the dentist to conduct a sensitivity test of lidocaine on your arm before any treatment

If you have had multiple dental treatments in the past, you can go through the previous clinical records or ask the dentist which anaesthesia had been used in the past which was not troublesome for you. Technically speaking, both articaine (septocaine) and lignocaine fall in the same group of anesthetics according to Pharmacology. Lignocaine happens to be the most commonly used anaesthetic agent and arguably the safest one as well. The doctor who has performed the clinical evaluation of the case is a better judge to decide the alternative to the medicine that you are allergic to and you should trust their opinion. Regards
