What we test is swab taken from nose. Virus from the atmosphere can get into the nose but for those who are vaccinated the virus doesn't spread further to the respiratory passages and lungs. That is where the role of vaccine comes. Virus may be found in the nose but it doesn't go to lungs. Similarly even if it goes to lungs, the infection is not so virulent. But it can also be a mutant virus which is not covered by vaccine. But that is a rarity.
