My husband is suffering from passive depression and mood swings ( irregular schedule and lifestyle) and is consuming alcohol and is smoking quite often . He used to do that previously also , always trying to convince me that he will leave these addictions but they rather increased in last 6-7 months. He is otherwise very well educated and accomplished but is having a very stressful phase in his start up now. He is a functional alcoholic, he needs it to keep him going but when he is stressed, he drinks and smokes more. Is this directly related to his extreme anger outbursts ? And are these addictions playing with his rationality ? Please guide and what should be done

Hello mam,I understand your concern. We should not see addictions as habits rather as a problem/ disease that needs treatment. There is a different branch called addiction psychiatry to deal with this problem. There is a dedicated center for deaddiction by AIIMS in Ghaziabad. Please try to convince him to take help
