Acyclovir as a suppressant
I was diagnosed with genital herpes at age 18 after an initial outbreak and put on acyclovir 400mg twice a day for a suppressant. I have been taking this medication every day for 9 years now and it I've had any other outbreaks I haven't noticed them. I switched doctors recently and was told that there's only been research on 2 years of use of this medication as a suppressant, and that long term use has not been researched to know if it's helping or harming you. He also told me that long term use could cause liver damage. He advised me to consider to quit taking it daily and only use if I have an outbreak. Is this true? Should I stop taking it?
