Yes it is compulsory to do ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy and to confirm the site and age of pregnancy.
If the pregnancy is outside uterus then abortion pills may cause complications. If the pregnancy is more than 7 weeks one has to do DnC to terminate pregnancy.
So before taking abortion pills one should always confirm the intrauterine pregnancy less than 7 weeks.

Yes it is compulsory. Firstly, it's mandatory as per govt regulation. Secondly, to detect ectopic pregnancy. If tablets are given in undiagnosed ectopic, it is potentially life threatening.
