For the past three days i have been experiencing mild pain in my abdomen and sternum which makes me uncomfortable. During night time while sleeping the pain is somewhat more but not severe. What could be this condition?

This may be due to regurgitation of acid in to your food pipe which increases when you lie down.... i understand your concern...try eating several small meals instead of three large ones whenever you can...Avoid foods that irritate your stomach, especially those that are spicy, acidic, fried or fatty... avoid coffee, tea etc... Avoid stress, consider calming activities, such as meditation, yoga etc...sleep with head raised position and have dinner at least 2 hours before sleep..take over pantaprazole 40 mg twice daily before food with above for 15 days....consult physician if symptoms persists

Hello there. I can understand your condition. I hope you are not in too much pain. It could be a simple gastritis/hyperacidity. You can take a antacid like ranitidine or a pantoprazole half an hour before food once or twice a day for 3 days. If it subsides, good or else consult a general physician or a general surgeon in person for further evaluation and management. Best regards. Dr. Anil kumar jain
