Clearly, baby had infection that has been efficiently controlled by the pediatrician. Now starting feeds in sick babies is always a challenge . Given the fact that their intestines are immature and could get infected easily, pediatrician all over the world excercise caution while restarting the feeds. If risk of NEC is negligible (to be decided by the treating doctor) then small amounts of  feeds could be started.
