My experience with MIRA clinic for Piles treatment
I had suffered from Piles for many years.. It would often subside by home remedies but would come again. Since I suffered from anxiety and panic attacks I always avoided hospitals and the doctors.. Finally I thought enough is enough.. It's time to get a permanent fix..
First visit
My first first appointment was on 26th February.. Getting an appointment was easy and the timing suited me. The reception staff was very friendly and after taking by details asked me to wait.. The clinic somehow had a very calming effect unlike the usual hospital or a doctors office.. The videos on the TV were showing very relevant information about piles and other such ailments which were treated in MIRA Clinic.. The testimonies of other patients gives you confidence that you are not the only one suffering from Piles🤣...
Very soon I was called to meet up with the assistant doctor, Dr Durga... She took my height, weight etc... I was a bit tensed at this time and my blood pressure was showing 150/90...Dr Durga realized I was tensed and was very understanding... She told me to calm down as there was nothing to worry.. After a few minutes when we checked the pressure again it was down to my usual 110/70....Dr Durga has an amazing ability to calm you down and make you feel comfortable... I explained to her about my problem and the details of it... She told it was very a common problem now especially among the IT crowd like me... More and more younger folks were getting it.. After taking all the details she told me to wait and Dr Vani Vijay will see me...
In less than 5 minutes I was called to Dr Vani's office... I explained to her a about all my issues.. I was asked to lie down on the bed for a physical examination... The male staff helped me to get in position... After the physical examination Dr Vani explained that i need to the surgery to remove the Hemorrhoids as a permanent solution... She told there was this new technology that is being used called Rafaello surgery with Radiofrequency for Piles which had a much higher success rate than Laser surgery... Also the probability of Reoccurrence is extremely low... She said I need to a blood test and scan before the surgery and her team will arrange for all that... She was extremely professional type who already knew all the questions I wanted to ask😄
Blood test
The list of medical test was shared by the clinic staff and said I could do the test in any lab... As they were common blood test for Diabetes, liver function, kidney function , HIV, etc and an ECG, I did it in a lab near my house... They send all the reports the next day and i forwarded them to MIRA clinic... Fortunately all the results were normal... One less thing to worry👍
The Scan
The appointment for Scan was given at 10:30 on a monday and i reached by 10:15 at the clinic. On the day before we need to take a light dinner and a laxative...Clear instructions are given by the clinic.. The technician came by 10:45...Dr Durga called and explained to me what this was all about... There is a separate room where the scan is done... Dr Durga asked me to lie down get in position so that the scope can be inserted. The procedure took less than 20 minutes and the scan report was also given immediately... Dr Durga told me that everything was good with the colon and i can proceed for the surgery... The office staff told me to come to Appolo spectra at 6:00am..Also gave the number of Dr Sathya, the anesthesist... I need contact him the day before the surgery.
The day before
All instructions are clearly given by the clinic as to what we need to eat and when to take the laxative.
I called Dr Satya about 7pm and he was extremely jolly.. He told me there was nothing to worry as all my reports were normal... I told him that i have anxiety issues and was planning to take a inderal 10mg to calm myself.... He laughed and said it was absolutely not required... You just come over and we will take care.. Just talking to him really helped... I did get a good sleep that night..
Surgery day
We left home by 5:30am and reached Apollo specta in less than 15mts as there was no traffic in the morning... Finished the registration at the counter and was asked to go to 2nd floor recovery room. We were met by a nurse who asked us to give all the medical reports.. I was asked to change the dress to a blue colored hospital gown.. The place is a hall with many beds separated by curtains.. There were couple of rooms also... I was assigned one bed there... Nothing much happens from 6am to 8am but I think the surgery is done on first come first basis so coming early helps..I had taken a book with me so didnt realise how fast time went..The duty doctor asked about the medical history and asked if I had any discomforts... They checked the pressure and other vitals... They give some drips to get you ready for the surgery.. An IV line is connected so that the medicines can be given..There is a bathroom also down the hall. A male nurse came to shave the surgery area... Also they gave enema to clear your bowels... Since I had already taken laxative the night before and no food or drink in the morning, there was nothing more to clear... The Duty doctor told me the surgery will be at 10:.30...I was very relaxed...
At about 10:20, the nurse told that I was to be shifted to the operation theatre which is on the third floor..I gave my spectacles, the book etc to my wife who was waiting outside... A Staff brought a wheelchair and asked me to get on it... I was taken to the third floor and waited outside the theater... You can see the outside city from the window... The staff was commenting about some new construction that was coming up next door wondering what that building was going to be... Then they let you inside to a hallway where you are asked to get on to a bed... I could see there were two operation rooms marked 1 and 2. There was already one patient on a similar bed whom I guess had finished his surgery and recovering... I could see the staff cleaning and getting the place ready for the next patient... They seemed to be working in a hurried but very orderly manner. There was a large old fashioned wall clock.
Dr Durga came to me and asked how I was feeling... It was a good relief to see Dr Durga there and her calming way of letting me know there was nothing to be worried.. We spoke to a while... She told me where she studied and worked before.
Dr Sathya came came and introduced himself and he was extremely jovial... We soon found out we had some common friends from the running community... Our discussions were so casual that I completely forgot I was right outside the operation theatre waiting for a surgery... After a while operation room 2 was ready and I was wheeled in.. They asked me to move to the bed there... There was a large board where all your details like age and medical details are written.
Dr Sathya walked in after glancing at the board, remarked that we were both the same age... This reminded me an old joke I read which I shared with him🤣... The atmosphere in the room was more of a party than an operation theatre.. Dr Vani also came in and I greeted her...
Dr Sathya asked me to sit straight and said he was giving a small injection in the spine... I didn't feel anything more than an usual prick of the needle... Then he asked me to lie down... An injection was given given through the IV line.. I asked what it was and he responded that it was for me to sleep.. That was the last thing I remembered before the Surgery..
When I woke up I was back in the hallway and first thing I noticed was that big clock... The time was about 11:30 so the whole surgery must have got over in less than 30 minutes.. Dr Durga came and asked how I was and she told me that the surgery went well and that one of the Hemorrhoids was of large size and I decided to go for the surgery at the right time..
Dr Sathya came with his infections smile and said everything was fine...My wife was able to join me and Dr Vani told us that everything went well...After about 20 minutes I was wheeled back to the recovery room on second floor...moving from one bed to other was little difficult but the staff was very helpful...
Throughout the day, I was given some medicine through the IV. Passing urine for the first time was a bit hard but manageable... About 2pm, I was given some soup and an hour later curd rice with vegetables... We were told that we could leave by about 5pm....My wife had finished all the billing formalities.. The office staff was very helpful in giving all the required documents in soft copy so I could file for reimbursement.. The nurse showed me how to use the Sitz bath...We left about 5:30pm after a glass of Water melon juice... I was able to sit in the car without any difficulties. ***** ** ************* * *** ** ******* ***** *** * ** ****** ****** ******** ** ********* ***** ***** ** *** ***** ********* ***** ** * **** ** *** **** ****** *** **** *** **** ********* ** ******* ****** ********* **** ******* *** * *** **** ***** ** **** *** ** *** ****** **** ******* *** ***** ***** ********* ** *** ***** **** ** *** **** ********* ** ***** ****** *** *** ****** ***** ** ************** ********** *** *** ***** piles was common and Surgeons kept improving on the actual surgery itself but the recovery was the harder part.. Many would get infections and without modern medicines recovery was difficult... Somehow this part remained in my mind... Now in 2024, with so much advancement in medicine, recovery from Surgery is extremely smooth.
Dr Durga called me the next day and the day after to check if everything was okay.. Also the doctor from Apollo hospital called to check if everything was okay
The nurse had explained on the medications to be taken for the next 7 days...
After a week there was a review with Dr Vani who after examining told that the wound was healing well.
I want to thank Dr Vani, Dr Durga, Dr Sathya, the staff of Apollo spectra for the wonderful help when I went through the most difficult day of my life.. Thier attention to individual patients and the dedication to thier profession is par excellence.
I had a very positive experience with Dr. Vani Vijay. She was professional and explained everything clearly in a way that’s easy to understand. I also appreciated the good post-surgery support and the latest medical treatment.
