Hi.. I have visited the doctor twice once for me and other for my sister. We both have same problem which is disc bulge. For me after thoroughly checking MRI film and reports doctor have suggested the bulge is mild and surgery not required. This can be treated with medicine and physio therapy.
For my sister the disc bulge at L5-S1 is severe and has significant disc bulge in L3-L4 and L4-L5 levels. Before consulting doctor S. S. Kumar we have consulted spine surgeon in CMC vellore and MIOT Chennai. Both the doctors recommended for fusion implantation surgery and that is the best option.
After I gave a consultation with S. S. Kumar sir he examined both patient and reports then he suggested for endoscopy or microscopy surgery can be done to cure this issue and no need to go for open surgery. He explained clearly why we should not go for open surgery clearly as below.
1. Patient is only 29years old
2.As she has multiple bulge along with severe bulge we should not do major surgery which will impact other two discuss.
3.Spine stability is 100% so endoscopy or microscopy is the best option.
The felt like I have saved my sister's life from hospitalized for rest of her years.

Contrary to the feedback shared about the doctor here, * *** * **** **** ********** **** ** ** ****** Has visited him for a back spasm/muscle pull issue.
1) But clearly Dr Kumar was in a hurry and it was evident in the way he didn’t even ask me which part of the pack was the issue . He wouldn’t have spent more than 2 mins, asked two questions, and he immediately sent me for XRay. Not a word about which part is paining or what kind of pain, low long has it been persistent. Nothing!
2) When I came back from the Xray room, he had already seen the report and started writing the prescription of medicines - didn’t have the courtesy to show the report and help me infer it. Another 2 mins it lasted. So for approximately 4 mins he charged + Xray + physiotherapy + blood test - 3700 rupees!
He was already done with the writing the prescription and said X-ray report is normal. And asked me to take physiology therapy, take the tablets, and come back if the pain is still there. I still asked him why this happens frequently, and what could be the reasons - his answers were one liners, and less than a few seconds. Clearly in a hurry and disinterested.
3) I was the last patient for the afternoon, and he was already talking on the phone to someone when I entered the room that he is late and will reach there in a while.
4) The bad part is I still have the same pain, but I don’t have the confidence to see Dr Kumar again. *** ****** ** ** **** ****** *** ***** *** ********** ** ****** ** *** ******** *** **** **** ********** I wouldn’t recommend or endorse this doctor for people who want the doctors to listen to their problems, and then give solutions.

I have had back pain on and off for 3 months but got worse last month .Initially I consulted Dr S. S. Kumar who suggested MRI scan which revealed a large herniated disc pinching my right leg nerve root. He diagnosed it as sciatica and asked me to take rest and put me on pain killers. Althogh I initially responded, However as the pain got worse, he gave me the surgical option called microdiscectomy. His explaination was crystal clear and he sounded very confident and positive and left the option to me to make a decision . As the pain was intolerable and I ran out of all non surgical options, I underwent surgery last week. I could walk immediately after surgery *** ** *** ****** Astra hospital didnt feel like a hospital to me, all the staff were extremely friendly, empathetic and compassionate.
I would highly recommend Dr S S Kumar and his team *** ***** ***** ****** * **** *** *** **** ****** ******* ******** *** highly ethical in their approach

I had spine surgery done in another hospital outside tamilnadu, where they did a mistake to me in operation. Due to that mistake, after 5 months of surgery I got CSF leakage in my suture line. Then I visited Dr. S.S KUMAR in Astra Spine Center in Velachery and Semmencheri nookaplyam link road, searched through YouTube, Doctor examined and given proper explanation and his treatment was good to me. I got admitted in hospital for 7 days, all the staffs were good in communicating things and immediate responses were given to me. Good nursing care. Good management systems. Duty doctors also have utmost care towards me and great concern. The Food provided by Hospital is soo good and its like homely food , Well maintained hospital ,It's best Spine and Ortho hospital in chennai with best reasonable cost. I do recommend this hospital for my family and friends.

Doctor appears to diagnose the core issue quickly. In my case I had pins and needles / tingling in hands and doctor suspected this to be ulnar nerve entrapment. However while surgery is the only option to release, DR Kumar did not opt for this as other tests showed inconclusive result. While I am still awaiting the relief I respect the doctors decision in not wanting to do surgery unless there is a conclusive evidence. This is the approach a doctor must have. Would recommend this doctor to anyone.
