Dr. Mohan Venkataraman, a National Merit Scholarship holder from his school days graduated with MBBS degree from Thanjavur Medical college in 1989. Subsequently, he did his M.D(general medicine) from Madras Medical College. He took his MRCP(UK) and became a collegiate member of Royal College of Physicians, London. Later was awarded Specialty Certificate in Respiratory Medicine by British thoracic society and Federation of Royal College of Physicians of UK. He started his career as a Senior House Officer in medicine at Madras Medical College (1990-1991) and subsequently worked for the zonal occupational disease center at Chennai, a 330 bedded hospital, where he established the Bronchoscopy unit ( To diagnose respiratory disorders) after being trained at the renowned Southern Railway HeadQuarters hospital, Uk forPerambur. He had a brief stint at ICMR in MMC as a research officer(Medical).He went to the United Kingdom for further training and trained and worked for the National Health SeUk for about 11 years in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. One of his special interest is the management of Pleural diseases such as Pleural effusions, Pneumothorax, Mesothelioma etc and established a Specialist Pleural Service at East Sussex hospitals NHS trust which catered to a large group of patients.He had written guidelines for doctors at ESHT on safe insertion of intercostal drains.He trained in Medical thoracoscopy at the famous Institute in Marseille, France. After returning to India in 2011, he has been working as a consultant in Internal Medicine & Respiratory Medicine at a corporate Hospital where he has established the Video Bronchoscopy unit, sleep, and Pleural services in addition to managing a variety of other respiratory and general Medicine patients.
