Managing Director and Lead Consultant – GG Bariatric & Metabolic Surge…read morery Centre, Dr. Deepu Rajkamal Selvaraj has been the driving force behind our vision to provide international quality surgical care and standards at our new GG Super-Speciality Hospitals.An Accomplished Surgeon and an Ardent Academician, “ DRS” as he is popularly known, has had a long journey in the field of Surgery.After obtaining his Masters in General Surgery at The Sri Ramachandra Medical College & University, he worked as a junior consultant at GG Hospitals in the 90’s.In the late 90’s, Dr. DRS traveled to Germany to work with Prof Liselotte Mettler, a pioneering Austrian-German surgeon who specialized in fertility enhancing endoscopic surgery. After undergoing training under Prof L Mettler at the University of Kiel, he returned to India and started a laparoscopic surgery center at GG Hospitals.
In early 2000 he had the opportunity to meet Prof Jacques Perissat MD, the legendary French Laparoscopic Surgeon who had performed one of the world's 1st Laparoscopic Cholecystectomies (Gall Bladder Removal via Keyhole Surgery). Prof J Perissat who was immensely impressed with the young Indian Surgeon offered him a fellowship at the university of Bordeaux which Dr. DRS readily accepted. The Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery was conferred on him by the University Of Bordeaux (France) in 2002.During his stay in France, he was introduced to Dr. Jean-Louis Dulucq MD, considered by many to be one of the world's finest laparoscopic surgeons. Dr. Dulucq offered to host Dr. DRS for a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at the Maison de Santé Protestante de Bordeaux-Bagatelle. Thus a Diploma in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery (Colorectal et Biliare) was conferred upon him the following year.In 2003, he traveled to the United Kingdom to work as a clinical assistant at the St.Mary’s Hospital in London. He worked & trained under Prof Lord Ara W Darzi OM, KBE, PC, FRS, FMedSci, FRCSI, FRCS, FRCSE, FRCPGlas, FACS, FRCP, FREng one of the most distinguished surgeons in the United Kingdom. The training included exposure to advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, Robotic Surgery, Upper GI & Colorectal Surgery at the Academic Surgical Unit – St Mary’s Hospital.During this period, he used to frequent Hammersmith Hospital in London and met with Prof Nagy Habib, Professor of Hepato-Biliary Surgery. This association with one of the doyens of Liver Cancer Surgery in the UK gave him tremendous exposure to liver resections and Radio-Frequency ablation of Hepatomas (Liver Cancer).In early 2007 Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department of Health by the Gordon Brown Government in the UK. Dr. DRS then decided to return to India.Having trained extensively in GI & HPB surgery, he decided to super specialize and joined the Mch residency program (Surgical GE) at his alma mater – Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute in may 2007. He successfully completed the program and was conferred the title of Mch (SGE) in 2010.Having performed several thousand laparoscopic surgical procedures including the first Scarless / Single port surgery in the southern half of the country, he has established a state of the art modular operating theater complex at the new GG Super-Specialty hospitals, including a flagship first of its kind Digital Operating Room (OR1-Karl Storz Germany).Dr. DRS specializes in minimal invasive Bariatric/Obesity/Metabolic surgery, Upper GI/Colorectal/Hepato-Biliary Surgery (New GGSSH) and fertility enhancing laparoscopic surgery (Fertility Research Centre, GGH).read less
