Sir Sayajirao General Hospital, commonly known as SSG Hospital, is a government hospital at Anandpura in Sayajiganj, Vadodara. Established in 1865 and later renamed after Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad, it is the teaching hospital of Medical College Baroda and the largest referral hospital in central Gujarat.The hospital has 1,250 teaching beds and records roughly nine lakh outpatient visits and 67,000 inpatient admissions a year, at about 90 per cent bed occupancy. Its emergency department runs 24 hours and handles close to 290 emergencies a day. A separate 22-bed medical nursing home offers private rooms.Plastic and reconstructive surgery is among the hospital's strongest departments, covering burns and burn reconstruction, breast surgery and breast reconstruction, congenital hand deformity correction and paediatric hand surgery, gynaecomastia surgery, hair transplantation and aesthetic procedures.Cardiac and vascular services include cardiology, interventional cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, paediatric cardiology, cardiac surgery, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery and neurovascular surgery.Orthopaedics covers joint replacement, arthroscopic surgery of the major joints, knee, shoulder, foot and ankle surgery, sports medicine and trauma surgery, with a pain management service alongside.Other surgical departments include general surgery, laparoscopic and gastrointestinal surgery, oncosurgery, endo-urology and urological surgery, and female pelvic and reconstructive surgery. Medical departments include internal medicine, pulmonology, psychiatry including addiction psychiatry, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, paediatrics, dentistry, radiology and radiation oncology.Diagnostics are run in-house, with around 2,000 laboratory tests and more than 600 radiological investigations carried out daily across pathology, clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology, haematology and transfusion medicine, clinical pharmacology and forensic medicine.The hospital takes part in national health programmes and provides subsidised care for patients of limited means through its Rogi Kalyan Samiti.SSG Hospital is located at Anandpura, Sayajiganj, Vadodara 390001. Sayajiganj is the district immediately around Vadodara railway station and Sayaji Baug, which makes the hospital one of the most directly reachable in the city for patients arriving by train or along the Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway, and places it close to Alkapuri, Fatehgunj, Raopura and the old walled city.
