Random urine dipstick test is used for the diagnosis of any pathological conditions. This test may comprise up to 10 different chemical pads each with a different color. The dipstick is dipped in the urine sample and then removed. This urine analysis helps in detecting the presence of glucose, ketones, proteins, bilirubin, hemoglobin, urobilinogen, leucocytes, etc. This helps in detecting any infections present in the bladder or urinary tract.

Proteins:

Kidney filters waste products from your body. If proteins are present in the urine it may be a sign that kidneys are not functioning properly.

Bile pigment:

It is a waste product eliminated by the liver. If the bile pigment is present in noticeable quantity in the urine it may indicate that the liver is not functioning properly.

Blood:

Blood in the urine may indicate severe infections or certain illness.

Glucose:

The high amount of glucose in the urine may indicate diabetes or if you are diabetic already then it may indicate that the blood glucose levels are not controlled properly.

What is the importance of this test?

Urine is produced by kidneys, which are present on either side of the spine below the rib cage. Kidneys help in filtering the wastes from the blood and in regulating the water quantity in the body. Kidneys also regulate the balance of electrolytes, proteins and other compounds in the body. The unwanted waste is eliminated through urine, which comes from kidneys through ureters into the bladder and then to the urethra.

This test may be recommended to you if experience symptoms like back pain, abdominal pain, pain while urinating, frequent urination, an urgency to urinate, etc. The test is also recommended to check the effectiveness of the treatment given.

Precautions:

Some medicines like ampicillin, cyclosporine, sulfamethoxazole, cisplatin, acetaminophen overdose, an overdose of salicylate, etc, may interfere with your test results. The results are also disturbed due to menstrual blood, vaginal medicine, seizures, stroke, alcoholism, etc.

The normal test results may vary depending on gender, age, health history, etc.
