What is this test?

This test is performed to identify the damage of the heart muscle in individuals suspected to have a heart attack or chest pain (angina) or any diseases which may have caused damage to the heart muscle.

What is Troponin T?

Troponin T is a type of protein present in both cardiac and skeletal muscle. There are three different troponin proteins which exist in the muscle like troponin-T, troponin-I and troponin-C. Damage to the cardiac muscle in an individual in conditions like angina, cardiac ischemia triggers the release of these proteins into the blood. Early detection of these proteins in an individual can be useful in the treatment and monitoring of cardiac damage.

Why this test is performed?
