Evaluate erythropoietic activity which is increased in acute and chronic hemorrhage, and hemolytic anemias; evaluate erythropoietic response to antianemic therapy. The enumeration of reticulocytes is the simplest available method of evaluating effective erythropoiesis, the release of functional erythrocytes into the circulation. An increase may indicate excessive demand of the bone marrow. A decrease may indicate failure of bone marrow function.
No special preparation is needed for Reticulocyte Count. Inform your doctor if you are on any medications or have any underlying medical conditions or allergies before undergoing Reticulocyte Count. Your doctor depending on your condition will give specific instructions.
