The postcoital test (PCT) (also known as Sims test, Huhner test or Sims-Huhner test) is a test in the evaluation of infertility. The test examines interaction between sperm and mucus of the cervix. The timing of a post coital test is very important. Post coital tests are only done one to two days before ovulation when the cervical mucus is thin and stretchy. Your doctor will want to collect and look at a cervical mucus sample somewhere between two to eight hours after you have intercourse with your partner.
No special preparation is needed for Post Coital Test. Inform your doctor if you are on any medications or have any underlying medical conditions or allergies before undergoing Post Coital Test. Your doctor depending on your condition will give specific instructions.
