Fever panel test- acute is a group of tests performed to detect the reasons for fever. This test is preferred when an individual is suffering from long-term fever or chronic fever.
Fever is a condition in which the body temperature rises. The normal body temperature is 98.6°F. During fever conditions, the normal body temperature will be high (above 98.6°F). If the temperature is above 106°F is called as hyperpyrexia. Fever can be due to various reasons like infections (bacterial or viral), hemorrhage, trauma, blood-related disorders, tumors, etc.
Complete urine exam: This test is used to detect any infections mostly urinary tract infection(UTI). Urinary tract infections can cause fever.
SGPT: It is a liver test to assess the functioning of the liver. During severe liver injury or liver disorders or in cases of liver failure, fever can be experienced.
ESR: It is erythrocyte sedimentation rate. This test is used to detect inflammations, infections, cancers, and autoimmune disorders. These conditions will lead to A smear.
Smear of MP: This is a malarial parasite smear test used to detect malarial infection in the body. So it can be a malarial fever.
WBC count: WBC count test helps to detect any infections in the body. The fever can be sometimes due to severe infections.
RBC: Red blood cell count test is done to detect any blood-related disorders which may be the reason for fever.
Hct: Hematocrit (Hct) test measures the proportion of red blood cells in the body. Abnormal levels of it may indicate a certain disease and it may cause fever.
Hemoglobin: Hemoglobin (Hb) test is used to detect anemias or blood-related disorders. This may be the cause of the fever.
MCV: Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) test measures the average volume of red blood cells. The abnormal levels may indicate certain problems which may cause fever.
Widal serology: This test is used to detect any infections that are causing fever.
This test may be recommended to you if you are suffering from chronic fever. This test is also performed to rule out the causes of fever.
